Rag curls

18/02/2026

Two days ago, I did rag curls for the first time. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's one of the hardest things I've done in a long time. You need a disgusting amount of hand dexterity and styling wax to make it work (I don't have any styling lotion), especially with hair thick and straight like mine. I had intended to sleep in them, but by the time they were done, the night sky was changing colors in preparation for the sunrise...

My first attempt. The back didn't turn out so well, but I was happy with the front pieces.

I tried it again the next day. Not enough wax in front...

Honestly, it looks so cute that I'm starting to think all the suffering was worth it.

I was at the riverside on the night of new year's eve. Fireworks were going off at multiple points on the other banks, making the buildings periodically light up with green; and on either side of me too (I was a little afraid the spark would fall on my clothes); and inbetween the buildings behind me.

My entire neighborhood is going to be rebuilt. In my heart I have a certain disdain for modern high-rise apartments, apartments that are always

bright white and spotless and has so many security measures that they separate people more than keep out burglars. But keeping the rundown wartime blocs wouldn't be good either.

If you're a bit knowledgeable about HCMC, you might already know where I live based on that description. I think my neighborhood is really special, so I'll have to talk about it another time.
